Speaking & Writing

          Both speaking and writing are processes which level of relevance to me is quite high since through those manners of communication I am able to express anything I want. Each process has its advantages as well as disadvantages, for instance when we speak we usually communicate informally or formally depending on the context; we can correct ourselves, I mean,  moving backwards and forwards any time to clarify our meaning. However, If I have a legal problem and I do not have anything written which can prove that I am right, I would be in a big problem. In this case writing would be very helpful for me, because it is permant and I could solve my "legal issue". Nevertheless, with writting we must consider many factors such as the audiente due to we lack of contextand and anybody can read what we write, so is required to write formally, taking care of coherence, cohesion, punctuation marks, among other aspects.

 

      

Summary

          Reviewing what we studied about "Teaching Conversation Skill", I may say that it was an interesting topic due to I realized little details that I should care of at the moment of interact with other people. Aspects such as making of meaning, which is really important since any speech act might have several intentions and that is the main reason why we must pay attention to the context where the conversation takes place, so the listener will not get confuse and he/she will know how to react. For instance, If I say to someone "I have to go to the restroom", it could mean many things, maybe I have personal needs and that is why I need to go or I want to see if my make up is fine and so forth.

          Another aspect discussed in that topic was the turn taking. We ought to be careful when we express ourselves because there is the possibility that we can extend in our discourse without taking into consideration the opinion of the listener(s), or the other way around, maybe we want to express something but the speaker doesn't let us to participate, which can affect the progress of the conversation and hence it can break off. So when we iniciate a dialogue, we should notice the gestures of our listener that can help us to know if he/she wants to speak and this way the conversation could flow nicely.

          Besides, we talked over other aspects such as adjancecy pairs, openings and closings, topics, male and female differences. The last aspect caught my attention since it has to do with women who are more likely to show interest in personal details than men do, which is totally true from my point of view. So if we want to have a conversation with someone, we must take into account the male and female factor because the interest of each one is quite different.
